February 2025 Newsletter

First things I often hear even from seasoned travellers is “OMG I AM IN OVERWHELM” so let’s break it down into what you need to know if travelling to Italy! Here are some commonly asked questions ...

.

What is Jubilee year in Italy?

The Jubilee 2025 is a special holy year in Rome and the Vatican City, and across Italy, starting at Christmas 2024 and ending at Epiphany 2026. A Jubilee year is a time for celebration, and sees millions of pilgrims visiting Rome seeking spiritual renewal and a stronger connection to their faith. Pilgrims may visit other places of spiritual significance across Italy and it will be a very busy time.

How will Jubilee effect my travel?

You will need to book early and you will notice more people in Italy even in the less touristy months like May and September. You will find that it could be more expensive for accommodation and tours but the bigger cities will be easier to navigate. The smaller tourist places that everyone has on their bucket lists ie Cinque Terre, Taormina, Amalfi Coast, maybe harder to negotiate manly because these places are small and what makes them amazing is exactly that – they are not built for millions of tourists to stay eat and enjoy. This is the case even outside of Jubilee celebrations.

Do I now need a visa as an Australian to travel to Italy?

Currently you do not need a visa but very soon you will need a ETIAS to travel. ETIAS is coming but not quite sure when other than it will be in 2025 No need to panic but you do need to be prepared - therefore I suggest you sign up and get up dates if you are travelling this year. Here is the official LINK and more information.

I read online that in Italy you can X what do you think?

Okay stop right there – While the internet, Facebook, YouTube etc can be a great source of information, a lot of it is not correct, outdated or someone's opinion rather than fact. The thing I love and hate about travel is what is true today is not necessarily correct tomorrow so make sure you get your information from a reliable source.

I am in overwhelm over the information about ITALY what do I do?

We have a planning service because we get this all the time. Maybe you would like to book your own but don’t know where to start. Perhaps you are going for 3 months and need to know where is the best place to stay. It could be that you have limited time or you simply don’t know what you don’t know yet – that is why we PLAN with you. Stop listening to those groups or your best friend who went to Italy 5 years ago as they are not you and they don’t really know the “insider information” although I am sure they are coming from best intensions. What is better a tour or independent travel?

This all depends on you and what you want for your trip to Italy. Our tours are for Australians and we travel like Italians. We move around mostly by train, we stay in central locations and we do not have super early mornings (early mornings are no 6am starts) or jam packed days where you don’t remember what you saw or where you went. Our tours are small in numbers and have time for you to explore independently. If tours are not your thing we can help you plan and book your whole adventure including arranging accommodation trains, private transfers, cooking classes, language school, dinner with a host family – whatever you need we can help design an independent tour for you (solo) with your partner or a groups of friends.

Do you have any specials on tours currently?

Yes we currently have our earlybird specials plus a special on single supplement. Find below the details to check out – just click on the below link for great savings

What is single supplement and what is a single room in Italy?

Accommodation in Italy is different to Australia as many hotels in Italy are not purpose built like here. We give a range for single supplement (see the fine print) as we can do a single room which in Italy is a smaller room with a single bed rather than a double room sold as single use which is normally what we offer clients. Single supplement is available, with the cost depending on room type and availability at the time of booking.
