Tour Overview

Riccardo Schirru is an Australian journalist born in Rome, Italy who has had extensive experience working with the Italian community in both in radio, print media and television. He has worked at SBS, Radio 3AK, 3BM and Rete Italia. Riccardo is currently a Senior Journalist at Il Globo Italian newspaper, located in Carlton Melbourne. He also coordinates a weekly culinary radio and TV program called ‘Sapori’ broadcasting on the IlGlobo TV app. Riccardo is passionate about all things Italian. He travels to Italy on a regular basis and has lived in various regions in Italy. Riccardo has a vast understanding and appreciation for Italian food, history and culture and loves sharing his knowledge & experience with other Australian’s.

Travelling together with Riccardo and Sandy Colombo Aussie2Italia this program is for people who want to understand the way I which Italians love their food and wine – It is a small tour of no more than 16 passengers and we will visit special places off the well worn tourist track.

The middle part of the tour based in Bologna will include rustic adventures TBA including regional food and wine visits and a cooking class – we are still finalizing details but it will be amazing !

Tour Details

Day 1: Hello Rome – Sunday 21 September 2025


Welcome to Rome. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and start exploring the Eternal City. You might visit the Colosseum, an ancient amphitheatre with a rich history, and the nearby Roman Forum, which was once the centre of ancient Roman public life. Tonight is our welcome dinner hosted by Sandy and Riccardo – we will spend the evening enjoying dinner at a local Roman restaurant.

Day 2: Rome – Monday 22 September 2025


After enjoying your Italian style breakfast on the terrace, we will start our day with a hop-on hop-off bus tour of Rome, covering major attractions such as the Vatican Museums, including the Sistine Chapel and Raphael Rooms, and St. Peter’s Basilica, where you can marvel at Michelangelo’s Pietà and the grand dome. In the afternoon, continue your exploration with visits to the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. There is so much to see and your tickets are valid for the whole day so you can still see this amazing city and rest your feet. This evening is free for you to enjoy dinner at your leisure.

Day 3: Rome – Tuesday 23 September 2025


After your Italian style breakfast it will be our final full day in Rome. Depending on booking allocation time this morning we will tour the Vatican Museum and Sistine chapel, which are an absolute must in Rome. Later today take the opportunity to explore more of Rome or revisit some of the sites you didn’t get time to really explore. Visit the Spanish Steps, relax at the famous staircase, or enjoy a stroll through the beautiful Villa Borghese park, which features museums and gardens. In the afternoon, you’ll have free time for shopping or last-minute sightseeing. In the evening, join us for a farewell dinner at a local Roman restaurant, where you can savour traditional Roman dishes and toast to a memorable time in Rome.

Day 4: Rome to Florence Wednesday 24 September 2025


After your Italian style breakfast on the Terrace, we check out of our hotel and we head to the trai station for our fast mid morning train to Florence. On arrival into Florence we check in to our hotel and you have the afternoon free to explore. You might start with a visit to the Florence Cathedral (Duomo), where you can marvel at the stunning dome designed by Brunelleschi. Explore Piazza della Signoria, home to the Palazzo Vecchio and a replica of Michelangelo’s David. Enjoy the evening discovering Florence at your own pace. Tonight for those interested we will meet in the lobby and walk to the wonderful Florence Mercato Centrale to have a drink and a meal – this is a real cultural and enjoyable experience (meal & drink at own cost) Something that is a must in Florence.

Day 5: Florence – Thursday 25 September 2025


After our Italian style breakfast, its time to explore Florence. Begin your day with a hop-on hop-off bus tour of Florence, which will take you to major highlights such as the Uffizi Gallery, renowned for its masterpieces by Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo, and the Ponte Vecchio, a medieval bridge lined with charming shops. In the afternoon, you may choose to stop and visit the Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo’s original David or relax in the Boboli Gardens. Remember your tickets are for the whole day so if you’re a bit tiered just do the full loop on the bus and see Florence with commentary and without walking. Dinner is at your leisure, and you can indulge in Tuscan specialties like ribollita or Florentine steak. Ask us for a recommendation or stop at one of the many places to eat while still touring this amazing city.

Day 6: Florence to Pisa – Friday 26 September 2025



After our Italian style breakfast we will make our way to the train station for our trip to Pisa. On arrival at Pisa we will walk (around 20 minutes) to visit the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa. Along with the tower, you can visit the nearby Cathedral and Baptistery. You must get your photo here ! There is time to explore and have lunch also. After exploring Pisa, we will return to Florence by train around mid afternoon. Tonight enjoy a relaxing evening and have Dinner at your leisure.

Day 7: Florence to Bologna Saturday 27 September 2025



After our Italian style breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and head for the train station around mind morning. We will travel by fast train to Bologna for the next 4 nights TBA
Will include a winery visit and lunch, local produce and great food – meet locals and learn how to cook at our local school.

Today after our Italian Style breakfast we say goodbye to Bologna and we checkout of our accommodation and head to the train station for our mid morning fast train to Venice. After checking in, you’ll have the evening free to settle in and relax. In the evening, join us for a welcome dinner at a local Venetian restaurant, where you’ll experience traditional Venetian cuisine and meet the rest of the group.

Day 12: Venice – Thursday 02 October 2025


After your Italian style breakfast, we start the day with a guided half-day tour that includes entry to the magnificent Doge’s Palace. This Gothic masterpiece features opulent rooms, intricate artwork, and the iconic Bridge of Sighs. After the tour, you’ll have the afternoon free to explore Venice on your own. You might visit St. Mark’s Basilica, admire the Rialto Bridge, or take a memorable gondola ride through the city’s enchanting canals. In the evening, you can choose from a variety of local eateries or simply enjoy a peaceful evening by the canals.

Day 13: Venice – Friday 03 October 2025



Today after our Italian style breakfast, enjoy a full day to explore more of Venice at your leisure. Remember you have your Vaporetto Pass (ferry tickets) You might take a trip to the nearby islands of Murano, renowned for its glass-making, and Burano, famous for its colourful houses and lace-making. Alternatively, you could wander through the charming neighbourhoods, such as Campo Santa Margherita or the Jewish Ghetto. Dinner is at your leisure, with numerous options to savour Venetian specialties.

Day 14: Venice – Home Saturday 04 October 2025


After our Italian style breakfast, we check out of our hotel and head to the airport – we will arrange a water taxi for your farewell to Venice and Italy (additional cost – depending on your flight time)
